Teacher, Mentor, Friend, Colleague. Vanessa has been all to me throughout my journey. She taught me to advocate zealously and thrive in the nuanced and fluid realm of immigration law. She also taught me to give myself grace and get over the wife/mommy/daughter/sister guilt of being all consumed with building a practice I love. She supported so many of us [women and minorities] on so many levels and propelled us forward to break ceilings. I have many fond (and insane!) memories of cramming in last-minute touches before driving like mad to file briefs or FedEx out documents in advance of a government deadline, of fundraising for government filing fees, of going above and beyond to get results for our clients. I even have memories of a surprise bridal shower thrown for me in the IJC… I will treasure all the Vanessa-isms I witnessed forever and am so privileged and honored to know her.
