In the halls of NYU and the corridors of 100 Centre Street, no one made a bigger impression than you, Vanessa. I’m sure there are words that everyone associate with you: passion, presence, perseverance, principle and, above all, brilliance. Vanessa, you never failed to energize and inspire everyone around you. Like you, I made the switch from criminal to immigration law, but unlike you, I never was able to become a champion of justice and a combatant of all things unjust and inhumane. Your voice was not just loud, it was informed, logical, and persuasive. I loved your emails which never were rushed and always were full of life lessons. There are some people in our lives who are a constant presence even if not center stage. You are one of those people for me. Never anything but whole-hearted in every way. I, and your students, your clients and your colleagues and friends are better off for having known, worked with and admired you. Thank you for being you.
