"Taught me about preparing a case, being an advocate" -Andrew T
I am so sorry to learn of Vanessa's passing. I graduated from NYU Law in 1979. I was in the criminal law clinic with her as one of two instructors in my 2nd or 3rd year of law school. (Her co-instructor had the first name Frank - I cannot recall his last name.) Vanessa is one of the people I have thought about from time to time over the years, as I have pleasant memories of her as a teacher, and in particular as someone who taught me about preparing a case, being an advocate and having the necessary trial skills for effective advocacy. I recall that I had to ignore how beautiful she was, and just listen to her and appreciate her obvious intellect and knowledge. She was kind, thoughtful and soft-spoken, but extremely smart and knowledgeable. I was a better lawyer for having learned from her (and Frank) in that clinic.
