I met Professor Merton when I was a student in the Immigration Justice Clinic. Professor Merton, I am forever grateful to you. You showed us what it means to be zealous advocates and to serve our clients with compassion and empathy. You led with heart, drive, devotion and resilience, and it was an honor to be your student. You have offered us career advice, life advice and other nuggets of wisdom (often in your 2 AM emails), some of which we still reference to this day. Even years after the clinic, you have continued to be a role model I look up to and seek advice from. You continue to be an inspiration to me. Thank you, Professor Merton, for all that you do, for fighting the good fight and for inspiring us to do the same. You will truly never know how many lives you’ve touched just by being the exemplary person you are. You have encouraged us to be better and do better. For all that you have done and continue to do, thank you! For the countless lives you have helped and inspired (including my own), thank you! On behalf of a world that is truly better because of you, thank you! You are loved and cherished and we are forever in debt to you!
