A Poem For Vanessa

In Preston Hall’s JJLS for an era she has dwelled
Helping needy clients from a small office with piled papers and cluttered shelves

A notable mane of tresses sitting as a soft cap
Over her twinkling eyes and a brain wholly unmatched

From her magical desk, trademark emails pages long rocketing out
IN ALL CAPS AND BOLDED TEXT her endless ideas spilling like water from a spout

For innumerable days and nights she toiled away
Seeking critical remedy and relief for justice gone astray

A champion not only for underserved clients, but for students alike
Her efforts ensuring a well-trained legacy of young lawyers to pick up the fight

It’s with deep gratitude and love that I write this today
To acknowledge the support and mentorship Vanessa has given me and so, so many colleagues along the way.
