Dear Vanessa,

When we first met a little over 30 years ago to discuss Pace’s Prosecution of Domestic Violence Clinic with the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office, that meeting lasted a couple of hours (and I do remember that you did most of the talking that day!). That night I told my husband that you were the most brilliant person I’d ever met and that same feeling still holds true today. However, I quickly learned that even more striking than your brilliance is your character. You are truly one of the most compassionate, selfless and caring people on the planet. :) There is no one that cares more about justice and helping people in need than you, but even more importantly - you not only genuinely care - but you take action and do everything you can to seek justice for people. You have inspired not only countless students over the years, but also your colleagues.

I witnessed your dedication to your clients and students early on. During my first several years of teaching at the law school, I taught my seminar in the evenings and I remember many late nights in the JJLS clinic office when I would hear you on the phone with Steven. He would often call to ask when you would be coming home (likely hoping that it would be soon!), but you were so committed to your clients and students that you would work all night if it meant you could help them.

I am grateful to you for all of the support and kindness you have shown me over the years and for making me a better teacher. I truly learned from the best by watching you motivate and challenge your students to be the best lawyers they could be.
